Meet Dr. Tana Taylor

The Family Path to Medicine

Dr. Taylor’s family has a long history in the medical profession so becoming a nurse practitioner was a natural choice for her. She first became a registered nurse and was involved with critical care through flight nursing. She then decided it was time to go back to school and learn more about how to take care of people. The University of Tennessee was where Dr. Taylor earned her doctorate. “I had a sense of ease within myself, feeling grounded and like I could handle anything that came up.”

Dr. Tana Taylor“I’ve been doing primary care for a long time now, nearly 20 years.” Dr. Taylor loves being a nurse practitioner and feels her patients are what keep her days interesting.

When you get to know long-term patients, it’s like they become part of your family outside of the world of medicine.

From Cold Maine Back to Sunny Florida

Dr. Taylor worked for the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) in Maine for many years before returning to her hometown of Tampa. “I knew I wanted to work for the VA when I graduated. They didn’t have any openings in Tampa, so I could pick any other state to work in that had openings. I chose Maine.” Dr. Taylor was the lead nurse practitioner there and left the VA when her daughter was born and has been back in Tampa since 2009.

Dr. Taylor is board certified through the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners. While working at the VA, she received several awards for outstanding service.
