Manipuflex™️ in New Port Richey

Man playing accordian

Gently drawing apart each joint like an accordion allows the spine to reset, and the pumping action enhances soft tissue nutrition and rehabilitation.

As another way to help patients experience pain relief and enhanced function, Dr. Coletti devised the highly safe, effective and popular Manipuflex maneuver, a modified form of a technique employed by Dr. Gregory Johnson, a Houston-based chiropractor. Using the latest technology, this maneuver is utilized to help relieve the effects of back pain due to herniated and degenerated discs. Since discs are constantly under weight-bearing pressure, they can be slow to heal. By gently stretching your spine, we help relieve pressure and enhance healing. This action is called “disc decompression”.

What’s involved?

A warm towel is placed around the patient’s neck, allowing Dr. Coletti to relax the muscles of the neck and perform long-axis traction to the patient’s spine. In order to keep the patient stable during the maneuver, four straps are placed over the patient’s pelvis in an “x” configuration. A cushioned wedge is also placed under the patient’s legs, bringing the legs to 90˚/parallel to the spine. When the patient is positioned correctly, the lumbar lordosis (curve of the lower back) is naturally flattened, allowing the long-axis traction to occur much more easily.

Who could benefit from it?

Manipuflex may be helpful for individuals who are 55 and under and have not gotten results from traditional Chiropractic treatment, spinal injections or medications. Some of the conditions that respond well to Manipuflex include:

  • Disc conditions
  • Headaches
  • Neurological conditions
  • Tension in the shoulder blades

What can I expect at my appointment?

Dr. Coletti will first perform a thorough examination to determine if you are a candidate for the Manipuflex maneuver and rule out any contraindications. These contraindications may include significant degeneration, previous surgery that involved titanium screws, nuts and bolts, any malignancy or any significant osteoporosis. You will likely be given X-rays to determine the level of degeneration in your spine.

With the Manipuflex maneuver, Dr. Coletti’s patients usually see positive results within 1-3 visits. As soon as our patients get the results that they’re looking for, then their treatment is complete. At Baywest Health & Rehab, LLC, we’re into the concept of short-term care plans.
