Acoustic Wave Therapy

Acoustic Wave Therapy or AWT is a type of technology that was developed in the ’90s to stimulate blood flow and relax muscles in athletes. This innovative therapy has been used for decades to address a wide range of sports injuries as well as various musculoskeletal conditions. We are pleased to be offering acoustic wave therapy at our Largo location.

The brand we have selected is The Miracle Wave®, which is powered by Kinas Medical Technologies. This top-of-the-line technology utilizes acoustic wave therapy to regenerate tissue, increase blood circulation, alleviate muscle aches and pains and promote faster healing.

Acoustic waves create a force on the tissues that can improve blood flow and encourage the body to repair itself, resulting in faster healing without undergoing surgery.

What Are Some Benefits?

  • Acoustic wave therapy is a non-invasive, drug-free outpatient procedure.
  • When used for musculoskeletal disorders or other painful joint conditions, the therapy is often performed without anesthesia.
  • Patients who receive AWT treatments usually do not report any major side effects.
  • There is little to no downtime with acoustic wave therapy.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is acoustic wave therapy similar to ultrasound therapy?

With ultrasound therapy, one continuous wave with a frequency range of 0.75-3 MHz is used. The Miracle Wave uses several continuous sound waves which have a high amplitude, are short in length and place negative tension on the tissues of the body.

What types of conditions can AWT help treat?

This therapy may help address acute, chronic or painful soft tissue lesions of the musculoskeletal system.

Are there any associated side effects?

Patients who have recently undergone acoustic wave therapy have reported no major side effects. Some people may experience swelling, reddening, localized increased pain or skin lesions but these are rare.

How soon can someone see results from AWT?

Almost immediately! Many patients notice improvements such as reduction in pain and increased mobility right after receiving the therapy. Typically, these results last for 5-8 days. Some slight discomfort could return before a patient’s next scheduled treatment. The majority of patients, however, could become free of discomfort over the following 2-3 weeks, when the body’s natural healing process begins.

How long is each treatment session?

While treatment times vary from patient to patient based on their particular condition, you can expect your session to last for approximately 5-10 minutes.
